1.GM-SAE 2024
6/17/2024
I write this nearly 2 weeks after getting back from the GM-SAE Autodrive competition for 2024, that ran from June 2nd until June 9th. This year was the 3rd year for the competition. Originially planned for 4 years, it was announced that it would be extended for a 5th year. I joined my Uni's Autodrive team in Febuary working as a V2X engineer and worked on:
- Configured and troubleshot router settings to enable communication between routers and autonomous vehicles.
- Worked on networking protocols and securing communication channels and ports from forged packets and DOS attacks, configuring the routers and electronics necessary to navigate smart and autonomous vehicles.
- Configured network protocols and signal relays among relay devices in the car, traffic light signals, and around traffic light stops to ensure seamless communication and safety.
- Worked on decoding pcap packets from their original format to ASN.1 and rerouting them to appropriate devices for interpretation.
- Configured and managed services such as CAMService, DENMService, and others to ensure efficient data exchange and real-time communication.
- Utilized ETSI-compliant message types (CAM, DENM, IVIM, SPATEM, MAPEM, VAM) to ensure interoperability with third-party applications and adherence to industry standards.
- Wrote extensive documentation and user manuals regarding the protocols and procedures of smart vehicles and V2X communication technologies.
I left my state of NC to Atlanta GA and then went on a connecting flight to Detroit MI. Footage of landing in Detroit MI:
From there we rented a 2024 Wagoneer. Our team headed to DoubleTree by Hilton where we spent the whole week. At every morning we woke up at 6 a.m, left for the shuttles that took us to MCity at 7:15-7-20 a.m, and went back to our hotel at anytime in between 4-6 p.m . At MCity each team would work on their car, attempting to pass safety checks before they can test their car on the obstacle course.
